Design

Function
The Bentley Mulsanne Key has two buttons: one that opens the trunk, and another which starts the vehicle. It also has a button to turn on the parking break. There is a knob to fold and unfold the mirrors while parked in tight areas. This feature helps you get in and out of your car.
The key is made from vegetable tanned leather. It takes about two days to craft each one. The key is cut by hand, shaped, stitched and sealed, then polished to give a superior result. It is robust, compact, and fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, yet it feels more heavy and luxurious.
It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key, which helps prevent keyless entry theft. This device is inserted into the remote-control key fob and will shut it off after a few minutes of inactivity. This stops thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that are able to unlock and start the vehicle.
Bentley's distinctive design is a reflection of the company's values which include exquisite craftsmanship, engineering expertise and the latest technologies. Personalisation
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to essentially design their own car. The "mood station" allows customers to choose images that inspire them. The guests receive keys made by hand and containing the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can be adorned with Bentley Muliner Personalised welcome lamps that illuminate the path of the opening door with the owner's name or logo as they approach the car.
Bentley says it takes roughly 500 man hours to design and assemble the average Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace modern technology is the main factor to this time-consuming task. And rather than letting the car's built in sensors guide it to perpendicular and parallel parking spots drivers must perform the task by hand.

Edition pays homage to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars include an item key that shows an item from the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
